Bat-Caves, Man-Caves, and now Woman-Caves!? Some call it a ‘Babe-Cave’, others a ‘She-Shed’ but here at the Urban Wildlife we have coined the term ‘Woman-Cave’ to describe the area of the home dedicated to the woman of the house which is seemingly a must in today’s world of constant distractions. Whereas the Man-Cave is all about being able to unleash the beast inside with loud stereo systems, musical instruments, multiple electronics systems, a Kegerator, and a laundry list of entertainment options, the woman cave is about isolating the outside world and creating a much simpler space where one can find peace and serenity.
It feels awfully sexist to suggest that women wouldn’t want to rock out to an AC-DC album at full blast, or that men wouldn’t also benefit from a place to take a peaceful nap surrounded by candles and the scents of Lavender and Pumpkin Spice (not combined of course). So look at the function, and not the names, of these two necessary but opposing spaces of the home as we are sure they would offer great mental, spiritual, and most likely physical health benefits to any person with at least 200 square feet to spare.
Call it a Babe-Cave, call it a She-Shed, call it a Woman-Cave, if you are going to do it, do it right! Here are some essentials for your place of zen…
1) Keep it Classy – For starters, it shouldn’t look like a fucking doll-house. She is an adult, not a child. So have some class and give it some real style.
Cute, but no thanks
2) Keep it Light – Save the dark leather and mahogany wood for the man-cave. This space should feel light and airy and full of neutral. Babies know all too well that neutral colors such as light gray, soft blue, beige, and plenty of white are essential to creating a calm ambience. Put an infant in a room full of vibrant colors and you can expect the waterworks.
White on white on white
3) Keep it Fresh – Providing a little bit of plant-life can go a long way. Whether in the form of a succulent filled terrarium, a large vase of fresh flowers, or a collection of small topiaries, adding some freshness into the mix will help liven up your space. And in case you didn’t know, there are countless health benefits to keeping plants near and dear.
Succulents: a low maintenance option that will stick around for more than just a few days Nothing says serenity like a vase full of peonies
4) Keep Hanging in there – Above all, your space should be fun! And what’s more fun than lounging around on a suspended sofa, hammock, or cabana!?
I’d never get up… that is a fact
5) Keep it Soft -Not really a complex or groundbreaking idea here… soft materials are soothing. I certainly wouldn’t mind laying in this day-bed for about four days straight.
The coziest day-bed in all the land Your feet will thank you The Knotted Throws by Crane & Canopy are on another level. Simply fantastic
