This existing garage was completed by the developer without installation of a decking system or staircase for the client to utilize the roof. Chicago Roof Deck worked closely with the client to develop this blank rooftop into their dream outdoor theater, lounge area and entertainment space. The large parapet walls installed by the developer created separation between the garage and ground level dining + cooking space. This condition created the feel of a smaller and slightly claustrophobic back yard. Removal of the parapet wall facing the yard and installation of an “open” steel railing helps re-connect these two spaces in a way which is inviting and attractive. Strengthening the connection between the garage and ground level space helps further encourage the use of the garage deck as well as well as extending the overall size and feel of the backyard. A lounge area anchored by an outdoor television mounted to the stone feature walls truly brings the “inside out”. The stone feature wall is a detail pulled from the interior living room fireplace. The cabinetry & countertop support a sink, trash drawer and fridge reducing the need to carry beverages and items back and forth from the house. Additionally, the granite countertop creates a wonderful buffet space for food and platters.
